Background of the study:
Rural-urban trade linkages in Ikere serve as vital conduits for economic exchange, bridging the gap between agricultural production in rural areas and market consumption in urban centers. These linkages facilitate the flow of goods, services, and capital, fostering economic growth on both sides (Akin, 2023; Taiwo, 2024). Rural producers benefit from improved market access, while urban consumers gain access to fresh and affordable products. Recent studies emphasize that these linkages not only enhance income generation and job creation but also promote regional integration and economic diversification (Oluwaseun, 2024). However, challenges such as inadequate transportation, poor infrastructure, and communication gaps often impede the efficiency of these trade networks. This study investigates how rural-urban trade linkages influence local economic activities in Ikere, analyzing both the positive outcomes and the constraints that limit their effectiveness. The research draws on empirical data and theoretical insights to explore how these linkages drive economic transformation, improve livelihoods, and contribute to sustainable development within the region.
Statement of the problem:
Despite the potential benefits of rural-urban trade linkages in Ikere, inadequate infrastructure, logistical inefficiencies, and poor communication networks restrict their effectiveness. These challenges diminish the full economic potential of such linkages and hamper the ability of local producers and consumers to reap optimal benefits. A systematic examination of these issues is needed to propose viable solutions that strengthen the trade linkages and enhance local economic outcomes.
Objectives of the study:
1. To analyze the impact of rural-urban trade linkages on local economic growth.
2. To identify the challenges impeding effective trade linkages in Ikere.
3. To propose strategies to strengthen rural-urban trade networks.

Research Hypotheses:
1. Rural-urban trade linkages significantly enhance local economic development in Ikere.
2. Infrastructure deficits negatively impact the efficiency of trade linkages.
3. Policy interventions aimed at improving transportation and communication will strengthen trade networks.
Significance of the study:
This study is significant because it provides critical insights into the role of rural-urban trade in fostering economic growth. The findings will inform policymakers and stakeholders on improving infrastructure and strategies to maximize the benefits of trade linkages in the region.
Scope and limitations of the study:
The study is limited to examining rural-urban trade linkages and their impact on local economies in Ikere Local Government Area, Ekiti State and does not include other regions or trade networks.
